Quickstart

Readings happen in the macOS desktop app. The website provides downloads, documentation, the skill catalog and account billing.

1. Sign in and connect

  1. Install and open fate, then sign in to your fate account. Return to the desktop after approving in the browser.
  2. Connect a membership or API Key in the welcome card or Settings > Account & models. Memberships require the corresponding official CLI; API Keys do not.
  3. Check that the composer’s model is available. Follow the installation page’s diagnostic steps if connection fails.

2. Start a reading

  1. Choose New reading and describe one question. Choose a method, or use /auto and confirm one recommendation.
  2. When Bazi, Ziwei or another method requests birth details, select a profile and complete the form. Choose Unknown for an unknown birth hour rather than inventing one.
  3. For Tarot or Liuyao, follow the card’s drawing or coin-tossing ritual. The local engine generates facts before the model interprets them.

3. Follow up, stop and recover

You can stop interpretation. Repair network or sign-in errors as prompted and retry; fate keeps your chosen billing source.

Open history in the sidebar for an ordinary follow-up. It reuses saved facts and randomness without drawing again or consuming another new-reading allowance. Explicitly changing methods, /pk or /arena starts a new reading.

4. Choose an interpretation skill

  1. Use the skill selector to switch installed skills for the current method.
  2. Installing an extension requires Plus. Open its desktop preview from the website details, check the version, author, source, license and text, then explicitly confirm. Cancel leaves the library intact.
  3. An identical installed version only opens; a newer version needs confirmation to replace it. Downgrading keeps installed skills. Readings support cultural exploration and reflection; seek professional help for high-risk questions.
